According to the American Cancer Society, almost 45,000 new cases of colorectal cancer are expected to be diagnosed in the United States this year, with more than 53,000 deaths from this disease. Colorectal cancer remains the third leading cause of cancer death among both men and women in the nation. Largely preventable through screening, colorectal cancer usually does not cause any symptoms until it is advanced and begins to spread through the body. To inform community members about colorectal cancer and the screening process, Jersey City Medical Center, a facility of RWJBarnabas Health, will host an educational webinar on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 with a presentation from Etan Spira, MD, Gastroenterologist, who discussed the importance of a screening test for colon cancer, called a colonoscopy, who should be screened, the process for screening and what patients can expect after screening a colonoscopy.
