Dear Neighbor,
Beginning Thursday, May 20, 2021, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center will embark on the largest expansion of our facility in the last 50 years.
To accommodate this project, Osborne Terrace, between Lehigh Avenue and Lyons Avenue, will temporarily become a one-way street, with all traffic directed north towards Lehigh Avenue. In addition, parking will be suspended on the hospital side of Lyons Avenue, from Osborne Terrace to Schuyler Avenue; construction barriers and signage will be in place to navigate the detours.
This phase of the expansion project and these temporary traffic detours are expected to run through May 2022.
Highlights of this historic expansion:
A new main 17,000 sq. ft. glass-enclosed main lobby with an entrances on Lyons Avenue & Osborne Terrace
Modern seating areas with new cafes and gift shop
Community meeting spaces
A new 3-story addition on Lyons Avenue
An expansive registration area
Expansion of the adult and pediatric emergency departments
Expansion of the Intensive Care Units
New Geriatric Medical-Surgical Unit
Expanded ORs
Expansion of the Cardiac Cath Lab suite
A dedicated center for all Advanced Heart Failure Treatment and Transplant services
We are excited to create these modern spaces that reflect the world-class care we deliver to our patients and our ongoing commitment to you, our neighbors.
We thank you for your patience as we begin this transformation of our facility and the surrounding community and we will continue to update you on our progress.
