One Source EAP Connections – August 2021
Sometimes life can feel like a game of Jenga®. You build a tower out of wooden blocks, then pull them out one by one. The resulting tower is unbalanced and can come crashing down.
Like the tower, you’ve spent years building a career, friends, a family, a romantic life and everyone seems to go to you when they need something. It’s great to feel respected and needed, but each demand can be like pulling out a block in the tower: deadlines, deliverables, child care, eldercare, social commitments and on and on and on.
If the demands are relentless, your tower may topple; that’s called burnout. Before you hit that point, it’s time for some changes to improve your work-life balance.
One Source EAP can help with the new Work-Life Balance Seminar and the Calm Collection video series. You can also use your benefit for one-on-one assistance by calling (800) 300-0628. The Access Center is open 24/7/365.

Five Keys to Change
- Motivation: Your “why” to keep in mind when change becomes difficult
- Community: Someone to support you in your quest to change
- Accountability: Someone who will keep you on your new path
- New Ideas: The tools for change
- Time: Schedule some time for yourself every day, even if its only five minutes in your car to breathe
Accept that you must say “No” to one part of your life in order to say “Yes” to another.
