Dr. Diane Attardi Also Named Medical Director of NICU
Long Branch, NJ – September 28, 2020 – Colts Neck resident Diane Attardi, MD, has been named chief of neonatology and medical director of Monmouth Medical Center’s Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation Regional Newborn Center, which houses the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Dr. Attardi, who has 27 years’ experience in neonatology and joined Monmouth Medical Center (MMC) in 1999, earned her medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine and completed a residency in pediatrics at St Christopher's Hospital for Children. She completed fellowship training in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. She holds board certification from the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Dr. Attardi is an integral part of Monmouth Medical Center’s pediatric residency program and is cited as one of the reasons that so many of the hospital’s pediatric residents have chosen neonatology and matched at fellowships across the country. She took the reins of MMC’s top-rated NICU from Dr. Susan Hudome, who retired in July after serving as medical director of the NICU since 2006.
Opened in 1968, MMC’s NICU was the first of its kind in New Jersey and among the first six offered at community hospitals nationally. Today it is ranked among the best rated NICUs nationally, thanks to a combination of the most sophisticated technology and the expertise of a dedicated team of highly trained caregivers. The NICU treats more than 500 fragile newborns each year – even those weighing less than a pound and born at just 23 weeks gestation – for conditions such as prematurity, low birth weight, acute life-threatening illnesses and congenital disorders, in addition to performing delicate surgeries.
