Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has relocated its Rehabilitation Services to a newly renovated 4,800-square-foot space on the hospital’s third floor.
“We are pleased to welcome our physical therapy and occupational therapy patients back to this state-of-the-art center,” said Tony Cava, president and chief executive officer, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset. “This new location enhances patients’ comfort and privacy and provides a bright, spacious environment where they can get the support they need to meet their rehabilitation goals and get them back to the activities they enjoy.”
Previously home to the hospital’s Same Day Surgery Center, the center features an open layout with a wall of windows for natural lighting. There are separate areas for occupational and physical therapy services and two private treatment rooms. A walking track circles the perimeter. In addition, the spacious waiting area provides ample seating and greater privacy for registration. Among the area’s new equipment is a treadmill with a harness system for patients who are recovering from a stroke or other neurological disorders.
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset’s physical therapy services include treatment for orthopedic conditions, neurological care, pelvic floor rehabilitation and vestibular rehabilitation. The hospital’s occupational therapy services include upper extremity and hand therapy; custom splinting; LVST for Parkinson’s disease; neurological care; lymphedema treatment and cancer rehabilitation.
The hospital has taken precautions to ensure patients’ safety following the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone entering the hospital is screened for symptoms and has their temperature taken. They are also given a mask to wear while in the hospital. The hospital also has stringent cleaning practices and has staggered appointments and moved chairs in waiting areas to ensure appropriate social distancing. Patients may be accompanied by one visitor to their appointment in Rehabilitation Services.
