Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, opened its new Same Day Surgery Center today in newly renovated 11,000-square-foot space on the hospital’s third floor.
“Our new Same Day Surgery Center will provide greater access and convenience for patients as well as enhance their privacy and comfort,” said Tony Cava, president and chief executive officer of Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset.
Among the features of the new center are:
- Direct access from the elevator just off the hospital’s main lobby. Free parking is available in the hospital’s parking garage.
- On-site registration. Patients no longer have to register in the main lobby first.
- Patient bays with three solid walls and just one curtain, providing greater privacy for patients.
- A private hallway connecting the Same Day Surgery Center with the Operating Room.
- A new comfortable waiting area for family members which features two skylights that were part of the hospital’s original operating suites in 1925. Complimentary coffee, tea and light refreshments are available for friends and family. A patient/family liaison will provide frequent updates.
Each year, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset performs more than 6,000 surgeries in a wide range of specialties, including in the fields of vascular disease, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, spine, podiatry, bariatrics and general surgeries. The hospital has been recognized as a Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation and has received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for total knee and hip replacement surgery.
