Belleville, NJ -- At the 7th World Congress on Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice held on December 7-9, 2017 in Rome Italy, Mona Philips, Rph, MAS, Director of Pharmacy at Clara Maass Medical Center presented a workshop titled “Implementation of a pharmacist enhancement training program.”
During the workshop, Philips presented a study of the inclusion of Pharmacists as part of the patient care team that are responsible for overseeing optimal, safe, and cost-effective pharmacotherapy to improve patient care. As part of her presentation, she noted recommendations outlined by the American College of Clinical Pharmacists (ACCP) and the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) for pharmacy practice, ranging from fundamental (drug distribution, prospective evaluation of drug safety and efficacy, etc.) to optimal services (providing formal educational services, etc.). The objective of the study, whose methods included a novel voluntary skills enhancement program, was implemented at a community hospital pharmacy to quantify and evaluate dual responsibilities of pharmacists.
At conclusion, it was determined by the study that the pharmacist enhancement program expanded skillsets, positively affected outcome measures and improved health care delivery within the facility.
“We are very proud to have Mona share her expertise and impressive research in clinical pharmacy on an international level, and to have others learn from our experience improving outcomes and health delivery at Clara Maass Medical Center” said Mary Ellen Clyne, PhD, President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical Center.
“The opportunity to present at the 7th World Congress is a professional achievement that I will remember for many years to come” said Philips.
Philips earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree in 1987 from Long Island University School of Pharmacy in Brooklyn, New York and a Master’s in Administrative Science Degree in 2003 from Farleigh Dickinson University; Teaneck, New Jersey. At CMMC, Philips serves on a multitude of committees within the hospital and serves as a pharmacy preceptor, leader, and mentor to many pharmacists, students and pharmacy residents.
