The Malcolm X. Shabazz High School Bulldogs and Hillside High School Comets
Darrell K. Terry, Sr., President and CEO of Newark Beth Israel and Children's Hospital of New Jersey and former New York Giant and Super Bowl Champion George Martin welcomed the teams and honored team captains and brothers Barnell Grant (Shabazz) and Barris.
NEWARK, NJ (January 16, 2018)-- Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey hosted a celebration for local high school football teams, The Malcolm X. Shabazz High School Bulldogs and the Hillside High School Comets. The teams were each honored with trophies, medals, hats and t-shirts to commemorate their success. Former New York Giants Team Captain and Super Bowl Champion George Martin was a special guest speaker at the event.

In December 2017, the Bulldogs won the North Jersey, Group I, Sectional
State Championship and the Hillside Comets won the Central Jersey, Group
II, Sectional State Championship.
This is the second NJ State Championship crown for the Shabazz Bulldogs
in the school's history and the 4th State Championship game appearance
for the team under the coach in five seasons. The Hillside Comets are
celebrating their first NJ State Championship crown since 1985.
