Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Department of Radiation Oncology is the first in New Jersey to offer the Halcyon™ system for image-guided radiotherapy to deliver advanced high-quality cancer treatment. This new technology can be used to treat a wide range of cancers including prostate, breast, head and neck and more.
Halcyon was engineered to deliver sophisticated, highly targeted cancer treatments with precision and accuracy. It is an advanced system with numerous features that make treatments more comfortable, offering a less intimidating experience for patients. Additionally, the Halcyon system incorporates intelligent automation that enables a faster treatment time. “As a physician, the daily image guided capability of this new treatment tool coupled with faster treatment times enhances both the quality of care I can deliver and overall experience. This is a win for all,” says Alison Grann, MD, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center. The Halcyon integrates patient comfort and relaxation by limiting the noise and vibrations so the machine motions are quiet and smooth. To facilitate a closer connection between patient and therapist during a Halcyon treatment, the system includes a couch-mounted camera that travels with the patient and a 2-way intercom, making it easy for the therapist to monitor and converse with those receiving treatment.
