Hirohisa Ikegami, MD, has joined the Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Program at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He specializes in minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery and heart transplant.
Dr. Ikegami received a medical degree from Shiga University of Medical Science in Japan and there completed a residency training in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery. He completed an advanced fellowship in adult cardiac surgery at Northwestern University in Illinois and then served as an attending surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University medical Center, specializing in ventricular assist devices, minimally invasive cardiac surgery and cardiac transplantation.
His research has been published in a number of peer reviewed journals, with publications accepted by the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Interactive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Innovations, General Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgery, Texas Heart Institute Journal and the Japanese Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery.
