Trinitas' CARES program exists to serve individuals anywhere in New Jersey with developmental disabilities in mental health or behavioral crises. We have staff who work out of regional offices in various parts of the state who provide support to people who are in crisis wherever they are located. We work with clients and their families, and staff and mental health providers, by offering the following:
- Direct consultation at the time of crisis in family homes, residential placements, day programs, emergency rooms
- Technical support to families, sponsors, DD and mental health service providers
- Link-up with relevant resources
- Training for consumers, families, sponsors and service providers
- Consultations at psychiatric inpatient units statewide
CARES (Crisis Assessment Response and Enhanced Services) was initiated in 2016 through a grant by the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). CARES replaces the former Trinitas SCCAT program. CARES provides crisis response and stabilization services for a period up to 120 days for adults ages 21 and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To make a referral and or to access us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, please call 888-393-3007, toll-free.
Whether you call business hours, or during off-hours, a clinician will gather the necessary information. We will advise you about next steps, including phone support and/or arranging a face-to-face meeting. Whether you're calling on behalf of a consumer as a friend, family member or staff, CARES will work with you to get to the heart of the matter and provide whatever information or services are needed.
