Midwifery Services at Trinitas Regional Medical Center
The Midwifery Services at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, operated by the Women's Care Physicians Group, LLC, is the second longest-running midwifery program in New Jersey. Composed of Certified Nurse Midwives, these services provide care to a culturally diverse population. Births take place at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, where obstetricians and neonatologists are in attendance at all times. The Women's Care Physicians Group is an integral part of the Trinitas Regional Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
We strive to help each woman develop confidence in her ability to give birth without undue medical intervention. However, as skilled clinicians, our Certified Nurse Midwives are trained to screen women for potential complications and consult and collaborate with obstetricians when safety warrants. Each woman under our care can experience her pregnancy and childbirth with assurance that, if necessary, she and her child will have access to the most advanced medical technology. We recognize the importance of family in the birth experience, and encourage appropriate participation by fathers/partners and siblings.
Many expectant parents want an alternative to routine childbirth without giving up the security of experienced, well-trained health care providers. We are proud to offer this option at Trinitas Regional Medical Center.
What Is A Certified Nurse Midwife?
Certified Nurse Midwives attend women during labor and delivery and are trained and experienced in prenatal, postpartum, normal newborn care, and in routine gynecological care. Thus, as they carry on a centuries-old tradition of assisting women in the safe delivery of babies, they can draw not only on their professional skills but also on the use of advanced techniques in modern medicine. By providing comfort, care and safety for women during the natural processes of pregnancy and childbirth, midwives have been an integral part of women's health services from the beginning of recorded history.

What Qualifications Do Certified Nurse Midwifes Possess?
The Certified Nurse Midwife is a professional care provider - a Registered Nurse (RN) who has graduated from one of more than thirty advanced education programs accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM). In addition, Certified Nurse Midwifes must pass a national certification examination and meet strict requirements set by state health agencies. Each of the Certified Nurse Midwifes at Trinitas Regional Medical Center meets and exceeds these requirements.
Who Is A Candidate For Childbirth By Midwife?
Midwifery is primarily intended for healthy women experiencing uncomplicated pregnancies.
What If Medical Complications Develop During Pregnancy Or Labor?
If your pregnancy develops medical complications that fall beyond the scope of midwifery care, your midwife may jointly manage your care with an obstetrician. At Trinitas Regional Medical Center, obstetricians and neonatologists are present at all times. The scope of collaboration will be determined by a mutually agreed upon plan between your midwife and obstetrician. If a physician must assume a dominant role in your care, your midwife may continue to participate in your physical care, guidance, teaching and support.
