The Beth Greenhouse and Farmer's Market
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center is committed to helping our community stay healthy and well. We empower people to take charge of their well-being by providing health and wellness education and access to nutritious foods. This is just one of the ways we have a positive social impact on our community.
Planting Roots in the Community
The Beth Greenhouse, located at the corner of Osborne Terrace and Lehigh Avenue at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, is a sustainable, hydroponic greenhouse that produces more than 5,000 pounds of high quality, nutritious, locally grown lettuce, herbs and greens to the Newark area each year. The Beth Greenhouse provides access to healthy foods and nutrition and wellness education throughout the year.
The produce grown in the Greenhouse supplies our seasonal, weekly Farmers Market, food pantry programs and community partner organizations. The greenhouse offers the ultimate farm-to-table experience through year-round field trips, which offers healthy food and nutrition education for groups of all ages including schools, scouts, seniors and more.
The Greenhouse supports health and wellness activities at the Rev. Dr. Ronald B. Christian Community Health and Wellness Center, and serves as an intergenerational education hub where a diverse community can participate in gardening activities, exchange recipes, obtain plant starts for their home gardens and learn about the importance of good nutrition.

What is Hydroponic Farming?
Hydroponic farming is a highly productive, environmentally friendly, and space-efficient means of growing food. It uses mineral nutrient solutions that are delivered to the plants via water, eliminating the need for soil. Hydroponics offers the benefits of local, year-round healthy food production with less water waste.
