Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) robotic surgeons, specialists in fertility, general surgery, thoracic surgery, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology and urology (adult and pediatric), perform the broadest range of robotic surgeries and are the most experienced in the northern New Jersey region. NBIMC, located in Newark, Essex County's largest city, is the only full service single site robotic surgery facility in New Jersey. Robotic single site cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) provides patients potentially quicker recovery and minimal scarring with no incision of the abdomen.
Our Newark, New Jersey hospital's robotic surgery program has been in the forefront of innovation and training for over a decade. A leader in advanced urologic robotic surgery, New Jersey's 1st robotic partial nephrectomy was performed at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. Since 2003, our cardiac surgeons have been using robotic surgery as an alternative to certain cardiovascular open-heart procedures, including mitral valve and atrial defect repair.
Robotic gynecologic or urogynecologic procedures often allow women patients to go home the same day of surgery with minimal pain and normal post-op precautions. Urologic surgeons offer men prostate, kidney and bladder procedures (for males and females) with minimally invasive incisions. When indicated, two surgeons can operate during one anesthetic procedure, greatly reducing operative risk and the need for multiple surgeries.
Utilizing the daVinci SI Surgical System, equipped with precision robotic surgical instruments, 3-D real-time imaging, “Firefly” integrated fluorescence imaging technology, Endowrist 45 stapling, enhanced maneuverability and magnified perspective, our skilled surgeons can treat some of the metropolitan New York region's most complex problems.
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center was a training ground for this innovative technology and was the only facility of its kind in the eastern United States, training surgeons on the latest robotic techniques. Our legacy is one that inspired surgeons to come from around the world to our Robotic Training Center to learn the art of precision and control in advanced robotic-assisted surgeries. Today we continue to be on the cusp of technology with precise, minimally invasive treatment options that enhance healing and promote well-being for our patients.
