Urinary Tract Infection Treatments

Stop the Infection Before It Spreads

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that occurs in the urinary tract, bladder, or urethra. In the early stages, UTIs are painful but treatable before any long-term damage take place. If left untreated, the infection can spread to the kidneys, where it can cause irreversible damage.

If your physician determines you have a UTI, they will provide you with antibiotics. These should be enough to take care of the infection before it can do any significant damage.

Symptoms of a UTI

You should schedule an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible if you believe you have a UTI. UTIs occur in adults, children, and infants. In infancy, UTIs are most common in boys, but in the adolescent years women they tend to manifest more frequently in women.

You can help your child avoid UTIs by making sure they make know to use the bathroom when they need to instead of holding it in. Ensuring that they know to wipe front to back can also prevent bacterial infections.

Symptoms of UTI include:

  • Painful, burning sensation when urinating
  • Dark, strange-smelling urine
  • Pain in the back or lower abdomen
  • Fatigue
  • Fever or chills, if the fever has progressed to the kidneys
  • Feeling the urge to urinate but inability to do so

Our physicians can diagnose and begin treatment of UTIs if you or someone in your family has any of the above symptoms. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
