West Orange, NJ, February 6, 2024 – RWJBarnabas Health, the largest, most comprehensive academic health care system in New Jersey, has been recognized by Newsweek as one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity” in 2024, for the second year in a row. Newsweek's annual ranking identifies the top 1,000 U.S. companies with exceptional dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I).
"At RWJBarnabas Health, we firmly believe that diversity of our workforce not only mirrors the communities we serve, but also sparks greater innovation and contributes to better health care outcomes,” said Mark E. Manigan, President and Chief Executive Officer, RWJBarnabas Health. “Earning this distinction from Newsweek for the second year reinforces our commitment to fostering a truly inclusive environment where every voice is heard, every background is valued, and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.”
"Diversity is a widely discussed topic - and it remains a crucial factor as people look for an employer or a business partner," said Nancy Cooper, Global Editor in Chief of Newsweek. "Newsweek and market-data research firm Plant-A Insights are proud to introduce ‘America's Greatest Workplaces for Diversity 2024,' highlighting companies that are committed to offering diverse and inclusive work environment."
In 2016, RWJBarnabas Health established the Corporate Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to expand diversity and inclusion strategies and embrace the range of experiences, perspectives and ideas of all the system’s employees. Since then, RWJBarnabas Health has increased the diversity of the system’s leadership team, increased cultural competence training for all employees and physicians, and has established employee-led groups based on shared characteristics and/or life experiences to provide support to fellow colleagues, foster career development and contribute to cultural sensitivity in the work environment.
Newsweek partnered with market data research firm Plant-A Insights Group to profile the top 1,000 companies that not only celebrate diversity but implement policies that cultivate an inclusive workplace. Scoring is based on a large-scale employee study that reviewed publicly available data, interviews with Human Resources professionals and an anonymous online survey of a diverse pool of employees. Respondents were asked questions about corporate culture, working environment and other subjects at both their own companies and others they were familiar with. The survey yielded more than 350,000 company reviews.
