Speech Therapy

There are many reasons why an individual may need the services of a speech language pathologist. Some are born with disorders or developmental delays, others may develop them over time, and still others can experience traumatic injury or physical conditions that may impact their ability to speak or swallow.

Our experienced, licensed speech-language pathologists provide diagnostic evaluations for all ages (infants through geriatrics) with regard to difficulties with:

  • Speech/articulation
  • Expressive or receptive language
  • Voice
  • Fluency
  • Feeding/swallowing

Therapeutic intervention is then implemented at our facilities based on the evaluation results.

These services include treatment for:

  • Language disorder
  • Swallowing disorders (videofluoroscopy available)
  • Articulation disorders
  • Voice disorders
  • Stuttering
  • Parkinson’s disease (LSVT BIG LOUD)
  • FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing)
  • Pediatric Feeding program
  • Bilingual Speech evaluations and therapy (Spanish only)
  • Rehabilitation/habilitation for pediatric cochlear implant recipients
  • MBSS (modified barium swallow studies)

Our speech-language pathology staff is continuously developing and expanding related support programs and resources.

Some of those programs include:

Stroke Group

Patients who have been diagnosed with any of the following as a result of Cerebral Vascular Disease (CVA) are eligible to take advantage of this program:

  • Aphasia
  • Dysarthria
  • Apraxia

Visit the events calendar for group meeting dates and location information.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) Clinic

  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurological disease, which affects the muscles involved in speaking and eating/swallowing. As a member of the ALS multidisciplinary team, the speech-language pathologist provides feeding/swallowing and communication evaluations.
  • Strategies to compensate for speech and/or swallowing difficulties are provided.

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT)

Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) is a type of therapy designed to treat voice and/or speech problems in patients with Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders. Members of our speech pathology departments are trained and certified to administer this type of treatment.

VitalStim Therapy

Vital stim therapy is a non-invasive therapy that uses electrical current to stimulate the muscles responsible for swallowing while the speech pathologists help the patient to re-educate the muscles with specific exercises.
