Structural Heart Disease Program

Structural heart disease is a problem with the tissues or valves of the heart. Many structural heart diseases are congenital, which means present at birth. Some structural heart disease will develop later in life. There are many kinds of structural heart diseases, but they all involve a defect or disorder in the structure of the heart tissue or valves. Historically, open-heart surgery has been the traditional, common method for treating this type of disease. However, our specialists are able to offer less-invasive procedures, which provide an alternative for patients for whom traditional surgery is considered too risky.

RWJBarnabas Health’s Structural Heart program, available at Jersey City Medical Center, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – New Brunswick, and Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, provides innovative, multi-specialty care for patients with advanced and complex valvular and structural heart disease. From evaluation to treatment, this unique program delivers the best possible outcomes for each and every patient.
