Learn More About Lung Cancer and Thoracic Cancer

  • Lung cancer screening program. Identifying lung cancer in its early stages saves lives. Cancer screening with low-dose computed tomography (CT) allows specialists to detect lung cancer before it is too late, and often before it even produces symptoms.
  • Lung cancer symptoms and diagnosis. Lung cancer symptoms may be similar to those of other lung and respiratory conditions. They should be taken seriously and brought to the attention of a doctor. Receiving an accurate diagnosis is the first and most crucial step in lung cancer care. Our specialists use state-of-the-art screening methods, including low-dose CT scans, while taking lung cancer symptoms into account if present when making a diagnosis.
  • Lung cancer treatment. Our multidisciplinary team of oncologists and other specialists works collaboratively to provide care to people with lung cancer. We offer the most advanced lung cancer treatment options, including video-assisted thoracic surgery, 3D conformal radiotherapy, brachytherapy and stereotactic body radiotherapy.
  • Chest wall tumors. Chest wall tumors originate in the bone or muscle of the chest wall and sometimes spread. Learn more about tumor types, causes, symptoms, diagnostics, treatments and survival rates.
  • Mediastinal tumors. Mediastinal tumors are found in the central area of the chest and are classified by where they are located in the chest (anterior, middle, posterior). Different tumors have different causes and each is location-dependent. Treatment options include lifestyle changes as well as medical and surgical procedures. As a premier New Jersey cancer hospital network, we offer the breadth of expertise and an innovative, comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating mediastinal tumors with the latest technology, increasing the mediastinal tumor life expectancy.
  • Mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that originates in the lining surrounding organs such as the lungs, heart and stomach. The cause of mesothelioma is unique; almost all cases are caused by exposure to the fibrous, powdery substance asbestos. Certain risk factors put people at risk of asbestos exposure and certain symptoms that signify someone has been exposed. A doctor can analyze risk factors and symptoms and order diagnostic tests to make an accurate mesothelioma diagnosis. Lifestyle changes can be implemented to reduce risk and symptom frequency and severity. Medical treatments and surgical procedures may also be used.
  • Metastatic lung cancer. Metastatic lung cancer is cancer that starts in the lungs and spreads to other areas of the body. There are some general metastatic lung cancer symptoms and others that are specific to the site where the cancer has spread to. Treatment options are prescribed based on the type of cancer and its location. The 5-year survival rate for metastatic lung cancer is 7 percent. Whether you need an initial consultation, a second opinion, or simply want to explore your metastatic lung cancer treatment options, we can help you find the answers you need.
  • Non-small cell lung cancer. Non-small cell lung cancer, the most common type of cancer, has three subtypes: adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and large cell carcinoma. Patients with non-small cell lung cancer may be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy or a combination of these treatments.
  • Small cell lung cancer. Small cell lung cancer, or oat cell cancer, is a less common type of lung cancer. It tends to grow more quickly than non-small cell cancer and thus responds to treatment differently. This section will cover small cell lung cancer classification, symptoms, treatment and prognosis.
  • Pleural cancer. Pleural cancer is cancer of the outer lining of the lungs. Pleural cancers are almost always metastatic. Most cases are caused by mesothelioma/asbestos exposure. There are a variety of medical treatment options and surgical procedures for pleural cancer. Because it is a rare form of cancer and warrants a specialized treatment approach, we have a team of experienced specialists who use precision pleural effusion lung cancer diagnostics and treatments.
  • Tracheal cancer. Tracheal cancer is a rare form of cancer that requires specialized treatment. Symptoms usually only present in the advanced stages of the disease, which may make it difficult to treat. There are a variety of treatment options that can relieve symptoms or cure tracheal cancer. Several types of bronchial treatments are available as well as surgery and radiation therapy. We bring you all-inclusive tracheal cancer care without having to travel far from home. Our all-inclusive approach to cancer care ensures patients receive the finest care and the best outcomes possible.
