Laparoscopic Surgery
Advancements in surgical medicine have led to an increasing number of laparoscopic procedures, including in gynecology. It can be used to explore the abdomen and reproductive organs. It may be used in cases of infertility, tubal sterilization, ectopic pregnancies and pelvic pain. It can also be used to diagnose endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts.
Laparoscopic surgery involves making a small incision in the body (usually 1.5 centimeters or less) and using fiber optic cabling (a laparoscope) to see inside the patient. In many cases, robotic surgical procedures are laparoscopic. These procedures mean less scarring for the patient and often result in significantly quicker recovery times.
