Peer Recovery Program (PRP)
The Peer Recovery Program (formerly known as OORP) provides recovery support services for all patients who present with substance use disorder, to include opioid use disorder, in our emergency departments and on our inpatient floors. The program serves participating RWJBarnabas Health hospitals, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week through full-time, hospital-based recovery specialists. Funding is provided by the New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Key Positions:
- Recovery Specialists: Recovery Specialists are in long-term recovery from substance use disorder. They provide bedside intervention and peer recovery support.
- Patient Navigators: Once the patient agrees to enter into a treatment program, a clinically-trained Patient Navigator links that individual to the appropriate level of care.
- Case Managers: The Case Manager conducts a needs assessment with the client to identify wellness needs, create a comprehensive case management plan and coordinate with community agencies to address any needs that arise. Case Managers work in conjunction with recovery specialists to support long-term recovery and overall wellness.
- Recovery Support Educators: The Recovery Support Educators are responsible for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating education and training on the Peer Recovery Program (PRP).
