Set Yourself Up for Success
On average, people try to quit smoking five to seven times before they successfully quit for good.
IFPR has helped thousands of people to overcome their addiction to nicotine. Our nicotine and tobacco recovery services are staffed with certified professionals who provide treatment under the Public Health Service Guidelines.
Studies show that individuals are four times more likely to quit smoking when participating in a structured tobacco recovery program as compared to attempting on their own.

Benefits of Quitting Smoking
It is never too late to quit smoking or vaping. The sooner you quit, the more you can reduce your chances of getting lung cancer and other diseases.
Some of the benefits you will see when you quit smoking are:
- Immediately your breath, clothes and hair smell better.
- Within 20 minutes, your heart rate and blood pressure will drop.
- Premature wrinkling of the skin and the staining of your teeth cease right away.
- After a few days, your blood carbon monoxide levels return to normal.
- Between 2 weeks and 3 months after quitting, circulation and lung function improve.
- Within 1 to 12 months after quitting, coughing and shortness of breath decrease and risk of lung infection is reduced.
- Within 1 to 2 years after quitting, heart attack risk drops dramatically.
- Within 5 to 10 years after quitting, mouth, throat and voice box (larynx) cancer risks are reduced by 50 percent. Stroke risk also decreases.
- About 10 years after quitting, lung cancer risk is about half of that of a person who is still smoking (after 10 to 15 years). Bladder, esophagus and kidney cancer risk decreases.
- About 15 years after quitting, coronary artery disease risk is closer to that of a non-smoker.
Although they are many, these are only just a few of the health benefits you reap when you quit smoking permanently. Others include:
- Reduced risk of cancer over time, including stomach, pancreas, liver, cervix, colon and rectum and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cancers
- Reduced risk of diabetes, improvement in the blood vessel, heart and lung function
- Adding as much as 10 years to your life
Also, quitting while you are younger can reduce your health risks even more. For example, when you quit smoking before the age of 40, you reduce the risk of dying from the smoke-related disease by about 90 percent. Still, quitting at any age is encouraged and can give you back years of life that would be lost if you continued smoking.
“You can do it. After almost 30 years, I did and now I can feel more
confident that I will be around to take care of my son.”

“I can breathe better, have stopped coughing in the morning, the
sinus problems I have are improving and I have more energy. And, my sense
of smell has increased so dramatically, I feel like I have superpowers!”
