Mark R. Preston, MD
- Urogynecology
Dr. Mark R. Preston is Board-Certified in both general Obstetrics and Gynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery - one of the first physicians in the country to achieve the latter certification. He is a nationally recognized expert in urogynecology and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery specializing in the minimally-invasive treatment of pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence.
Dr. Preston has published several peer-reviewed journal articles and co-authored chapters on minimally-invasive surgery for stress urinary incontinence in leading textbooks. He is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society and, as a member of the Health Policy Committee Quality sub-committee, has been integral in the formulation of proposed national measures to assess quality of care in urogynecology. Additionally, he has served as a moderator at the Annual Global Conference for the AAGL, the leading professional society for minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, and as an instructor at Bridgeport Hospital’s Annual Endoscopy Course.
Dr. Preston received his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College, graduating cum laude. After a brief career in finance at GE, where he was an Honor graduate of the Financial Management Program, he returned to school and received his medical degree from Columbia University. He completed residency training in Ob/Gyn at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York, where he developed a special interest in pelvic surgery. Dr. Preston then went on to complete a fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery at Emory University and a second fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery under the tutelage of Dr. Jim Ross, a pioneer in laparoscopic urogynecology. Following completion of his fellowships, he returned to his home state of Connecticut where he was in private practice for 15 years before joining Trinitas Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Preston spends most of his free time with his wife and two small children. He also enjoys singing classical music, cooking (and eating), running, mountain biking and travel. When he is able, he likes to travel to the Thai-Burmese border where he volunteers at a medical clinic caring for Burmese refugees fleeing from persecution within their country.
