Living Safely with Disabilities and Special Health Needs Online Center for Safety

People with disabilities are often at increased risk of injury. Yet, when safety education and resources are provided, they might not be relevant, understandable, or accessible to those with disabilities. To resolve this problem, we have created a one stop hub of safety resources in multiple formats to increase accessibility, understanding, and use.

In 2021, Children’s Specialized Hospital was awarded an Inclusive Healthy Communities grant from the New Jersey Division of Disability Services, Department of Human Services. Developed through a partnership among disability advocates, organizations, agencies, and caregivers, this initiative focuses on improving equity, accessibility, and functionality of safety education and injury prevention. Use this online safety center to learn more about safety and to guide your inclusive safety efforts.

Children’s Specialized Hospital expresses our gratitude to the self advocates and core partners who guided this initiative. We acknowledge and thank the agencies, organizations, and safety stakeholders who contributed their time and resources to support this Online Center for Safety and the Living Safely initiative in its entirety.
