Maternal Services
Labor, Delivery and Recovery Rooms
On our recovery (LDR) unit, patients have the luxury of laboring, delivering and recovering in one of six contemporary suites.
Complicated deliveries and cesarean births can be handled in one of two operating suites, which are also located within the LDR wing.
Following recovery, patients will stay in private postpartum rooms.
Special Care Nursery
In addition to our Newborn Nursery, Clara Maass Medical Center maintains a Level II Special Care Nursery for premature newborns born at 32 weeks or greater, and newborns in need of specialized medical treatment. With a neonatologist that is available 24-hours a day, and a highly skilled team of neonatal nurses, we provide comprehensive expert medical care utilizing the latest technology.
Since we understand that new parents want and need to spend time with their newborns, especially when they are born with special care needs, we encourage couplet care for families on our Maternal Care Unit.
Our liberal visitation policy also encourages families to share special time with their newborn, enhancing the bonding process.
With the AngelEye camera system, family members can connect via an app to live-streamed video of the newborn, 24/7/365. Loved ones can see a full-frame view of the baby at his or her station, right on their smartphones or mobile devices. Beyond viewing, parents can speak to the baby by way of an optional one-way audio feed.
AngelEye can also be used for communication between parents and health care providers, and as a way to access educational videos and information. Instructions for the app are available in more than 100 languages.

A Star Is Born: 973-450-2277
Every year, thousands of families choose to welcome their babies into the world at Clara Maass Medical Center. We invite you to celebrate the birth of a special child – either your own or a beloved newborn or child of a family member or friend – by making a gift to place a star bearing the child’s name and birth date on our “A Star is Born” wall. This wall is prominently located in the main reception area of the Maternity Center. Your gift not only marks a joyous occasion, but also benefits a wide range of programs for newborns and their families. For more information, contact the Foundation at the number listed above.
