- Surgery: Surgery can be a viable, successful option for certain types of gynecologic cancers. Because we evaluate each patient on a one-on-one basis, your treatment will vary and that includes whether or not you are a good surgical candidate.
- Chemotherapy: Chemotherapy and its ability to treat your type of gynecological cancer, is a treatment plan that your oncologists must determine. This treatment uses medicines administered via an intravenous needle system to kill cancer cells, though some drugs can be taken orally. For example, it’s one of the main ways to treat ovarian cancer. Patients who undergo chemo are supervised by a gynecologic oncologist or medical oncologist, which specialize in female cancers. The treatment can involve more than one medicine, and your oncologist will explain which medicine(s) he or she recommends.
- Radiation Therapy: There are several types of radiation therapy technologies and modalities used to treat gynecologic cancers. Because the cancers can vary, the treatments do as well. Radiation therapy uses beams of intense energy to destroy cancer cells. Radiation therapy most often gets its power from x-rays, but the power may also come from protons or other types of energy. It is one of the most common cancer treatments, and can be used in combination with other types of therapies or on its own. For example, brachytherapy is one of the radiation therapy options we offer that is used to treat types of gynecologic cancers such as endometrial, cervical and vaginal cancer.
