Dr. Margaret Ames joined Jersey City Medical Center in 2013 as Associate Vice President of Nursing Operations. In April 2018, she was appointed the role of Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services. During her tenure, she has successfully led key improvement efforts in patient experience and nursing quality. Margaret has also led command center operations during such significant events as active shooter incident and the peak COVID pandemic weeks. Margaret has a key interest and track record in developing nurse leaders.
Prior to Jersey City Medical Center, much of her clinical and leadership work was in solid organ transplantation. She co-authored several clinical research papers and a book chapter on the Role of the Clinical Coordinator. Her Masters of Public Administration is from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She holds ANCC Board Certification as Nurse Executive, Advanced. She earned her Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Rutgers University where she studied Compassion Fatigue in Nurses and co-authored a Qualitative Systematic Review. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. In addition, Dr. Ames is an Adjunct Faculty member at the RSON, Newark Campus where she teaches Health Care Economics and Business Practices for the APN.
