Student Nurse Externship
The RWJBarnabas Health Student Nurse Externship is a unique opportunity for nursing students to gain practical experience and hands-on training in a health care setting. It is designed to provide students with a chance to apply their theoretical knowledge, develop clinical skills, and gain exposure to the real-world challenges of nursing practice.
Throughout the program, externs work alongside experienced nursing staff (preceptors) in a variety of specialty areas to gain a broader understanding of nursing practice.
Student nurse extern programs are designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and clinical practice, enabling nursing students to develop the skills, confidence, and professionalism required for a successful nursing career. By immersing themselves in a supportive health care environment, externs can solidify their passion for nursing, build their resume, and make significant strides in their personal and professional growth.
Senior Immersion/Dedicated Education Units (DEUs)
The Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) model utilizes staff nurses to provide oversight and hands-on experiences for students as they explore areas of nursing that they are potentially interested in pursuing upon graduation. The faculty and Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioners provide support and guidance as students progress through sought after experiences in the ED, Perioperative areas, Med/Surg and Cardiac Catheterization Labs.
