Library Services
Books
The Altschul Medical Library has over 4000 monograph titles arranged on the shelves according to the National Library of Medicine Classification system. Books may be searched in the card catalog by author, title or subject. The subject authority is the National Library of Medicine’s list of “Medical Subject Headings.” The collection is divided into a Circulating Section where materials are loaned for two weeks, and a Reserve Section where materials may only be borrowed overnight. Hospital staff and physicians with MMC ID’s may checkout Library materials. Patrons must pay full replacement costs for damaged or lost items.
Journals
The Library does not have active print journal subscriptions. An alphabetical printed list gives information that includes holdings, location, and format of the journal. Back issues of journals are available on microfilm, in bound volumes, or online.
Inter-library Loan
Inter-library loans for journal articles or monographs will be performed on a per-cost basis. Request forms are available, and assistance will be given to properly complete the requested information. Please allow for a turnaround time of one to two weeks.
Photocopier
A photocopier is available for use of Library patrons. There is a charge of 25 cents per page for students, medical center staff, and visitors. Copies of Library materials must be copied in accordance with copyright provisions.
Computer Laboratory
A computer laboratory with six Windows PCs is available for patron use. General word-processing and database software is loaded onto the hard drive. Patrons with access privileges may search the Internet.
