Clinical Rotations
Arranging a Clinical Rotation at Jersey City Medical Center
Are you a student enrolled in a degree program looking to obtain a clinical rotation? Please note that you and your academic institution need to provide important information to the Educational Center for Professional Development at Jersey City Medical Center before the start of your clinical experience.
Our office helps to arrange clinical rotations for all students who are not part of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Examples of programs include nursing, radiology, sterile processing, and laboratory science.
How does the process work?
Please contact the Educational Center for Professional Development at 201-915-2948. Our office hours are 8AM-4PM, Monday through Friday, or you may leave a voicemail. We will collect some information about your desired clinical rotation, your school, and your degree program before proceeding. If appropriate, your request is then passed on to the relevant clinical department for verification that they wish to precept/supervise students.
Because some academic institutions may not yet have an academic affiliation agreement in place with JCMC, please allow 8-12 additional weeks for completion of this agreement.
The existence of an agreement between your school and JCMC does not guarantee the automatic approval of any student experiences. Experiences are granted based upon department and preceptor availability, in keeping with hospital standards and patient safety needs.
After our office verifies the existence of an agreement or helps complete one if needed, and obtains approval from the requested preceptor/clinical supervisor, the school's internship coordinator ensures that the appropriate paperwork is completed and on file with us. This paperwork needs to be on file with our office a minimum of 8-12 weeks prior to the requested start date.
The clinical faculty or student must also complete a mandatory online learning module before the start of the clinical. Faculty and students who plan to administer medications as part of their clinicals must complete additional verification procedures. We ask that these procedures be completed at least two weeks before the requested start date.
